Hosting, uptime and backups
Where Knowpoint runs, how to check whether it's up, how your data is backed up, and how to keep your own copy.
Where Knowpoint runs
- Application and database: Render, a managed cloud platform with SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 audits, in the United States (Oregon).
- In front of it: Cloudflare, for DNS, TLS and protection against attack traffic.
- Email: Resend sends invites, password resets and alerts.
Each workspace has its own database schema, its own address and its own encryption key. Passwords, one-time code secrets and integration keys are encrypted with AES-256-GCM before they're stored. All traffic uses HTTPS. For the full picture, see the security page and the security whitepaper.
Is Knowpoint up?
Check the status page at status.knowpoint.io. It runs separately from Knowpoint, so it still works if Knowpoint doesn't. It shows:
- the current status of the web app, the website, workspaces and the API
- uptime history
- incidents and scheduled maintenance, with updates as they happen
Select Subscribe on the status page to get those updates by email. In the app you can also open it from π‘ Tips β System status.
Backups
The database is backed up continuously, so it can be restored to any moment in the last 7 days. Backups are kept and managed by Render, separately from the running database.
Backups are for recovering from a serious incident on our side. They aren't a way to undo a change in one workspace. For that:
- Documents keep their revision history. Open a document and select History to see earlier versions.
- The audit log shows who changed what, and when.
Keep your own copy
You can export everything in your workspace at any time, and as often as you like: go to Admin β Export & import and select Download export. The ZIP has a complete copy you can import back into Knowpoint, plus spreadsheets for Excel. You can include password values, but they're in plain text, so keep the file somewhere safe. See Export and import.
Many teams export on a schedule, for example monthly, and keep the file somewhere safe of their own.
