Connect Datto RMM

Sync sites and devices, with hardware, serial number, OS, IP, last user, antivirus and patch status, from Datto RMM.

This guide connects Datto RMM so Knowpoint can read your sites and devices. Knowpoint only reads from Datto RMM. It never changes anything there.

1. Turn on the API and create keys in Datto RMM

  1. In Datto RMM, go to Setup β†’ Global Settings β†’ Access Control and turn on Enable API Access.
  2. Go to Setup β†’ Users. Open the user Knowpoint should act as, or add one for it, for example Knowpoint API. Its security level decides what Knowpoint can see.
  3. Under API, choose Generate API Keys.
  4. Copy the API Key and the API Secret Key. The secret is only shown once.

What's synced

From Datto RMM Into Knowpoint
Sites Organizations (a Datto RMM site is usually one client)
Devices Assets, with hostname, operating system, IP address, last user and warranty date, plus serial number, manufacturer, model and hardware from the device's audit

Desktops and laptops become Workstations, servers and ESXi hosts Servers, printers Printers, and network devices the matching type. Deleted devices aren't synced.

Each asset also has a From Datto RMM card with what Datto knows right now: online or offline, last seen, last reboot, device type, domain, internal and external IP, antivirus and its status, patch status, whether a reboot is pending, and when Datto last audited it. Open in Datto RMM goes straight to the device.

Datto RMM doesn't have client contacts or site addresses, so those aren't synced. If you also use a PSA, connect it too.

How hardware details are read

Serial numbers, make, model, processor, memory and disks come from each device's audit, which takes one request per device. Knowpoint only reads an audit again when Datto has audited the device since the last sync, so later syncs are quick. A very large first sync reads up to 3,000 audits and does the rest on the following syncs.
