Warranty lookups (Dell, Lenovo, HP, Cisco)
Look up each asset's serial number with its maker and fill in when its warranty or support contract ends, with expiry alerts.
Your PSA or RMM often doesn't know when a device's warranty ends, and when it does, the date is usually the original factory warranty, not the extended one you bought. A warranty lookup asks the maker instead.
| Maker | What it checks | What you need |
|---|---|---|
| Dell | Warranty and support coverage by service tag (ProSupport, Next Business Day and so on), ship date and product | A Dell TechDirect API key for the Warranty API |
| Lenovo | Base warranty and upgrades by serial number, ship date and product | A Lenovo Warranty API client ID |
| HP | Warranty and care packs by serial number, for HP Inc computers and printers | An HP Developer Portal key for the HP Warranty API |
| Cisco | Support contract (SmartNet) and warranty end dates by serial number, with the product ID | A Cisco API Console app with the Serial Number to Information API |
HPE servers aren't covered by HP's API, because HPE is a separate company. Meraki devices don't have a warranty to look up: the Meraki integration fills in when their license ends instead.
Connect
- Go to Admin β Integrations and choose Dell warranty, Lenovo warranty, HP warranty or Cisco support coverage.
- Enter the key from the maker. The How to set it up box on the page says where to get it.
- Choose Save and continue, then Test connection, then π Check now.
There's nothing to match: a warranty lookup doesn't add organizations or assets. It reads the ones you already have.
Which assets are checked
Every asset made by that maker that has a serial number. Knowpoint goes by the asset's Manufacturer field, or the start of its model or name when the manufacturer is empty (Dell OptiPlex 7090). Serial numbers like To be filled by O.E.M. or N/A are skipped.
Each asset is checked again every 30 days, because warranties get extended, and straight away when its serial number changes. A run checks up to 500 assets; on a big workspace the first check finishes over a few runs.
Only serial numbers are sent to the maker. Nothing else about your clients leaves Knowpoint.
What you get
- The warranty date. The latest coverage end date goes into the asset's Warranty Expiration field (or Subscription / License Expiration on a firewall), so it appears under Expiring on the dashboard and the expiry alerts cover it.
- A card on the asset, such as From Dell warranty, with each coverage and its dates, the ship date and the product, and a link to check it on the maker's site.
The maker's date wins. Once a lookup has found a warranty date for an asset, a PSA or RMM sync leaves that asset's warranty field alone, and the asset's history keeps any date it replaced.
If an asset's type has no warranty date field, the date is still on its card. Add a Warranty Expiration date field to the asset type (Admin β Asset types) to get it in the field and in alerts.
Troubleshooting
- Sign-in failed: check the client ID and secret. Dell, HP and Cisco keys only work once the maker has approved them for the warranty API.
- Doesn't know this serial number: the maker has no record of it. Check the serial number on the asset, or that the asset's manufacturer is right.
- Nothing was checked: no asset has both that maker as its manufacturer and a serial number. Your PSA or RMM sync usually fills both in.
