Backups (Datto BCDR, Slide, Axcient)
See every client's backups next to their documentation: what's protected, what's failing, offsite copies, boot checks and the servers nothing backs up, with alerts.
Connect your backup tools, and you'll see whether every client's backups are working without opening each vendor's portal. Organizations get a πΎ Backups card, protected machines show their backup on the asset, and πΎ Backups in the sidebar lists everything across your clients, worst first.
| Tool | What comes in | Connect it under |
|---|---|---|
| Datto BCDR | SIRIS, ALTO and NAS appliances, every machine and share they protect, with the last backup, offsite copy and screenshot verification. SaaS Protection too: each Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace domain and how much of it was backed up recently | Admin β Integrations β Datto BCDR |
| Slide | Slide boxes and every machine they protect, with the last backup, cloud copy and boot verification | Admin β Integrations β Slide |
| Axcient x360Recover | Appliances and every protected device, with its latest local and cloud recovery points and AutoVerify result | Admin β Integrations β Axcient x360Recover |
Knowpoint only reads from these tools. It never starts, pauses, changes or deletes a backup.
Connect one
- In Knowpoint, go to Admin β Integrations and choose the tool. How to set it up on that page says where to create the API key in the vendor's portal.
- Paste the key and choose Test connection.
- Choose Match companies. Each Datto client, Slide client or Axcient client is matched to the organization with the same name. Fix any that don't match. Turn on Create organizations for companies that don't match one only if you want new ones made.
- Choose π Sync now. After that, backups are checked every 4 hours by default. You can change this under Sync automatically every.
What you see
Devices. Each protected machine is matched to the asset it already is, by name or short hostname, the same way as for an RMM. Your PSA or RMM usually owns a device's details, so a backup tool only fills in blank fields. One of those is a server's Backup Method, for example Datto (DENTAL-SIRIS). The appliances themselves (a SIRIS, a Slide box, an Axcient appliance) are added as assets too, with a card showing their model, storage and last check-in.
Health. Knowpoint works out each backup's health the same way for every tool:
| Status | When |
|---|---|
| Healthy | A good backup in the last day, and no failed boot check |
| Needs a look | No good backup for more than a day; or the latest backup failed although an earlier one today worked; or the latest boot check (screenshot verification, AutoVerify) failed; or SaaS Protection backed up less than 90% of a domain recently |
| Failing | No good backup for 3 days, or no good backup yet; or SaaS Protection backed up less than half of a domain recently |
| Paused | Backups are paused in the backup tool |
The reason shows with each one, for example Last successful backup 4 days ago: VSS writer timed out.
Servers without backup. The Backups card lists the organization's servers that no connected backup tool reports protecting, so you can spot the one nobody added. If a server is backed up some other way, note it in the server's Backup Method field.
Business reviews. A business review can include a πΎ Backups section: how many backups are healthy, offsite copies, boot checks passed, and servers without backup.
Alerts
Add the Backups failing rule under Admin β Notifications (it's one of the recommended rules). It alerts once when a backup stops working, and again if the backup recovers and later fails again. By default it only alerts when a backup is Failing. Choose Failing or needing a look to also hear about late backups and failed boot checks.
Good to know
- Datto Endpoint Backup (Datto's direct-to-cloud agent) isn't included yet.
- A Slide box that isn't assigned to a client in Slide can't be placed in an organization. The sync tells you how many there are.
- If you disconnect a backup tool, its backup status is removed. The assets it added stay, like with any integration.
