Something needs fixing

A notification for problems a simple rule finds: devices with no security agent, IP conflicts, missing SPF or DMARC, risky passwords and documents nobody has updated.

Something needs fixing is a notification rule for problems Knowpoint can spot from what's documented and synced, without any AI. Each problem alerts once, to the people and channels you choose.

These used to be checks in Blind spots. Blind spots now keeps to the work its agents and Knowa do: writing what's missing, correcting what's out of date, and relating and tagging items. Open findings for these problems in Blind spots clear on each agent's next run.

What it watches for

Problem What it finds
Servers and workstations with no security agent Devices none of your security tools (Huntress, SentinelOne, Microsoft Defender) report. Needs one of them connected.
IP address conflicts Two devices set to the same IP address.
Domains with no SPF or DMARC Domains that receive email but have no SPF or DMARC record, so others can send email that looks like it's from them.
Risky passwords Passwords someone who's since been removed saw and nobody changed, and weak passwords (when password grading is on).
Documents nobody has updated Documents not edited in the months you choose (12 to start with). Off unless you tick it.

Set it up

  1. In Admin β†’ Notifications, choose + New rule, then Something needs fixing.
  2. Tick the problems you want, and how many months make a document out of date.
  3. Choose the organizations, who gets the alerts, and where: the πŸ”” inbox, email, or a channel.
  4. Save.

To open a ticket for each problem, send the rule to a HaloPSA or ConnectWise alert channel.

How it behaves

  • It checks about once an hour.
  • Each problem alerts once. It alerts again only if it comes back with different details after being fixed, for example a document that's edited and then left again for a year.
  • A new rule tells you about the problems already there, up to 25 an hour, so a large workspace's first alerts arrive over a few hours.
  • People are only told about items they can see.
